Rosamond Exacts Revenge on L.A. Baptist With Score

Call it a measure of revenge.

Last year, Rosamond High found itself trailing L.A. Baptist by 41 points at halftime.

This time around, running back Jamar Day sliced through L.A. Baptist’s defense for 166 yards in 22 carries and led the Roadrunners to a 12-7 nonleague victory Saturday against the defending Southern Section Division X champion in a season opener at Alemany High.

Day scored the winning touchdown on a five-yard run with 19 seconds remaining in the game. it was his second score of the night and capped a nine-play, 66-yard drive.

It also answered L.A. Baptist’s go-ahead touchdown with 2:48 left.

L.A. Baptist, which went undefeated in 1993, finished with 60 yards rushing in 23 carries and 114 yards passing.

Despite their shortcomings offensively, the Knights almost pulled it out. Trailing, 6-0, L.A. Baptist recovered Day’s fumble on the Rosamond 19-yard-line with under five minutes remaining. Four plays later, Joe Romero barreled into the end zone from 11 yards out for a 7-6 lead.
