Senior Lymar Pratt rushed for two second-half touchdowns to lead Long Beach Millikan to a 25-24 victory over Santa Ana Friday night at Long Beach Millikan.
The 5-foot-8 running back rushed for a game-high 174 yards in 16 carries and scored three touchdowns.
Trailing, 24-19, midway through the fourth quarter following Santa Ana’s 20-yard field goal by Eddie Contreras, Pratt led Millikan on a 65-yard scoring drive.
Carrying the ball four times for 54 yards, Pratt scored the winning touchdown on a nine-yard run with four minutes 59 seconds left in the game. The play was set up by a 13-yard Josh Weller pass to Jim Kesalas.
Santa Ana quarterback Brian Schwalm drove the Saints to the Rams’ 44 yard-line after a 19-yard screen pass to Francisco Franco. On fourth and two, however, the Long Beach defense held.
Sophomore running back Omar Gomez sparked a spirited Saints’ rushing attack with a team-high 89 yards. Schwalm rushed for 84 yards as Santa Ana gained 211 yards on the ground.
Long Beach had jumped out to a 7-0 first-quarter lead when Pratt scored from the one-yard line. Santa Ana had leads of 14-0 and 21-13 before Pratt led the Rams’ rally.
