SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Diamond Lifts Quartz Hill, 53-22

Jeff Diamond scored five touchdowns and teammate Jeremiah Harris gained 193 yards in 17 carries to lead Quartz Hill High to a 53-22 victory over Palmdale in a Golden League game Friday night at Palmdale.

Diamond, a senior fullback, had 64 yards in 10 carries and scored on runs of 25, two, 10, one and one yard for the Rebels (5-1-2, 2-0-1). Harris scored on a 24-yard run in the third quarter.

Brian Pereira intercepted two third-quarter passes for Quartz Hill, pitching to teammate Monte Reed for a 45-yard touchdown on the second one. Pereira also recovered two fumbles.

Quarterback Johnny Gillespie of Palmdale (0-8, 0-3) rushed for two fourth-quarter touchdowns. He completed six of 18 passes for 94 yards.

Nick Olivares led the Falcons with 54 yards in 13 carries and one touchdown.

Quartz Hill quarterback Damian Kendrid attempted only four passes and did not complete any. But he ran for a 10-yard touchdown in the first quarter that gave the Rebels a 20-0 lead.
