GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Brea-Olinda Routs Upland, Extends Streak to 56 Games

Brea-Olinda won its 56th consecutive girls’ basketball game, 94-26, over Upland on Thursday in the second round of the Rancho Grande Tournament at Etiwanda High School.

The Ladycats’ victory broke their previous county mark of 55, set from 1989-91.

The Southern Section record for consecutive victories belongs to Riverside Poly, which won 84 from 1978-82 with Cheryl Miller.

Brea-Olinda’s victory came one night after it scored a county-record 137 points--and third-highest in Southern Section history--in a 137-10 victory over Ontario Chaffey.

Kiyoko Miller and Jennifer Saari each scored 17 points and Saari had a team-high seven rebounds and four steals. Lee Moulin had 15 and Marissa Bradley scored 13. Roschelle Anthony added 10.

Brea-Olinda plays Victorville in a semifinal at 7:30 tonight.

In first round of the Carson City (Nev.) Tournament:

Marina 55, Reno McQueen 36--Center Shandy Robbins had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Marina teammate Sonya Bryant had 16 points and five steals.

In the Hacienda Wilson tournament:

Whittier Christian 43, West Covina 42--West Covina missed two free throws in the final seconds. Alana Kempton led the Heralds (2-1) with 28 points.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Costa Mesa 45, Westminster 41--Center Amber Farroux had 18 points and April Ramirez added 11 to lead host Costa Mesa.

Laguna Hills 39, El Modena 35--Tayibba Haneef had 11 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks for visiting Laguna Hills (2-0).

Liberty Christian 43, Norwalk Pioneer Baptist 37--Becky Rendon scored 15 points for Liberty Christian (2-0).

Loara 58, Garden Grove 50--Becky Joosten scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead visiting Loara (1-1). Teammate Betsy Holman added 13 points. Janine Shaw had 21 points, including four three-pointers, for Garden Grove (0-1).
