HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / SOUTHERN SECTION SEMIFINALS : McCutcheon Leads Way for Bishop Amat, 49-22

Daylon McCutcheon rushed 17 times for 131 times and three touchdowns to lead top-ranked Bishop Amat to a 49-22 victory over Mission Viejo Trabuco Hills in a Division I semifinal Friday night.

Before 7,800 at Orange Coast College, McCutcheon scored on runs of one, 28 and 50 yards and returned an interception 14 yards for another score. After McCutcheon’s first touchdown run, Ramogi Huma returned an interception 44 yards for a 21-6 lead.

Bishop Amat (13-0) also got a 56-yard scoring pass play from James Free to Randy Guanko in the third quarter to make the score 35-6, and a two-yard run by Brian Russell with 2:46 left.

Trabuco Hills finished 10-3.

Lancaster Antelope Valley 28, Palos Verdes Peninsula 0--Lineman Chad Shrout returned a fumble 29 yards for a touchdown for host Antelope Valley (10-2) in the third quarter of the Division II semifinal.

Shrout also kicked field goals of 50 and 40 yards. Jermaine Lewis rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown for the Antelopes.

Peninsula running back Petros Papadakis was held to 67 yards as the Panthers (11-2) had a 10-game winning streak snapped.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 27, Gardena Serra 14--Quarterback Ryan Bowne engineered three long touchdown drives and Chris Sailer kicked field goals of 43 and 50 yards as Notre Dame (12-1) won the Division III game at Serra (8-5).

Serra was held to 147 yards--all rushing.
