VALLEY ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks’ Buz Greene a 1-Stroke Winner in Tourney of Club Champions

Buz Greene of Thousand Oaks fired a one-under-par 71 Monday to win the Southern California Golf Assn.’s 20th Tournament of Club Champions at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.

Greene, club champion at Saticoy Country Club near Camarillo, held off John Wardrup (Torrey Pines) by one shot.

The event pitted 95 individual men’s club champions from throughout the Southland. Gary Klahn of Agoura and Lee Davis of Thousand Oaks finished in a four-way tie for third at 73.

Jeff Port of Chatsworth and Bill O’Connor, club champion at North Ranch, finished in a tie for seventh at two-over 74. Former Cal State Northridge standout Rick Sessinghaus tied for 13th with a 75.

Girls’ Tennis

Second-seeded Julia Feldman of Taft High advanced to the semifinals of the City Section girls’ individual tennis tourney with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Leslie Musser of Van Nuys at the Racquet Centre Monday in Studio City.

Feldman, a senior who is 46-2 over three seasons, said she was tired from playing three matches in a juniors tournament last weekend and didn’t get warmed up until the second set.

Feldman will face Ilona Kordanskay of Los Angeles High in Wednesday’s semifinals. Kordanskay has won all three of her matches in the tournament by 6-0, 6-0 scores. She was ranked 53rd in the 14-and-under division by the Southern California Tennis Assn. last year.

In quarterfinal doubles matches, Stephanie Shapiro and Terri Rosenthal of Taft defeated Alison Fischer and Jennie Wilson of Palisades, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Carolyn Lee and Brenda Moore of Palisades defeated Taft’s Ravid Levy and Alicia Whelan, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6).
