Laguna Hills’ Brendan McGraw gained 100 yards in Saturday’s 34-21 loss to Colton Bloomington in the Division VIII semifinals to give him 2,511 yards for the season and the county rushing title by 11 yards over Costa Mesa’s Charles Chatman. McGraw’s total was short of Jeff Byrd’s county record of 2,596 yards set in 1992 at Rancho Alamitos.

McGraw also scored a touchdown Saturday, giving him 42, adding to his single-season county record.

“He didn’t care about individual goals; he was concerned about the team winning and not winning,” Laguna Hills Coach Steve Bresnahan said.

“He’ll appreciate much later what he did, but he knows he had some pretty good linemen blocking for him. . . . It will be a long-term reward, but he’s disappointed he’s not still playing.”
