BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Santa Ana Valley Rallies to Win

Fueled by a third-quarter rally, Santa Ana Valley defeated Chino Hills Ayala, 65-60, in the first round of the In-N-Out Burger/Converse Classic on Tuesday at Trabuco Hills High.

After trailing, 30-22, at the half, the Falcons outscored Ayala, 17-8, in the third quarter.

Olujimi Mann had 21 points and Ike Harmon 20 for Santa Ana Valley (2-1).

Tom Berry had 22 points and Shane Riggins added 18 for Ayala.

In other tournament games:

Tustin 94, South Torrance 69--David Lalazarian scored 29 points and Doug Gottlieb had 27 to lead Tustin, which led, 53-25, at halftime in the first-round game.

Capistrano Valley 74, Rancho Bernardo 67--Randy Shepard scored 15 points to lead Capistrano Valley (2-1), which led, 38-24, at the half.

La Habra 65, Long Beach St. Anthony 57--Corey Holbert scored 21 points and Dan Ploog had 18 to lead La Habra (2-1), which outscored St. Anthony, 39-32, in the second half of the consolation game.

Fountain Valley 71, Agoura 61--Paul Tayyar had 19 points and Daniel Keller 15 to lead Fountain Valley in the consolation game. The Barons led, 33-24, at the half.

In the Costa Mesa tournament:

Calvary Chapel 64, Santiago 49--Isaac Leasau scored a game-high 19 points for Calvary Chapel (5-0). Teammate Joe Ortiz added 17 points and Brandon Wills 13. Kevin Falconer had eight points and nine assists.

Magnolia 69, Los Amigos 52--Josh Reding was eight for nine from field scoring 19 points, to lead Magnolia (3-2). Teammate Ahmad Shurdim had 13 points and nine rebounds. Mark Udell scored a game-high 20 points for Los Amigos.

In the La Quinta Aztec Classic:

La Quinta 72, Westminster 51--Greg Greenfield had 16 points and Jason Gondringer added 16 for La Quinta (2-0). Mark Steele had 12 points for Westminster (2-3).

Huntington Beach 44, Liberty Christian 32--Matt Jones scored 16 points and Jeremy Johnson 12 to lead Huntington Beach (1-0), which rallied from a 23-20 halftime deficit. Bob McClung scored 18 points for Liberty Christian (3-2) in the first round.

In nonleague play:

Foothill 87, Orange Lutheran 67--Marc Brown had 20 points and Dan Almquist added 19 for host Foothill (4-1). Matt Begatourian had 10 points to lead Orange Lutheran (2-2).

St. Margaret’s 62, San Clemente 52--Bobby Baker scored 18 points, including four three-pointers, to lead St. Margaret’s (3-0). Damion Raibon added 11 points and 11 rebounds and Bobby Masters had six points and 16 rebounds.

Mission Viejo 59, Aliso Niguel 41--Tyler Kalklosch scored 19 points and Don Williams and Austin Moherman each added 10 points to lead host Mission Viejo (4-1). Jason Mulkay scored 13 points, including three three-pointers, for Aliso Niguel (1-4).

Dana Hills 65, Irvine 59--Donald Meyers had 19 points and Jeff Barnett added 13 for host Dana Hills (1-1). Carl Madrioli led the Vaqueros with eight rebounds.
