Valley College Receiver to Sign With Cal

Brian Comer, an All-American receiver from Valley College, said Monday he will sign to play football at Cal.

Comer, who caught 81 passes for 1,753 yards and 15 touchdowns in 11 games this season, said he had also scheduled recruiting visits to Wyoming and UNLV, but he canceled those after deciding on Cal.

Comer said he chose the school “because I will be challenged in the classroom academically and will be challenged athletically on the field.”

A 5-foot-11, 180-pound sophomore, Comer holds the Valley College career records for receptions (139), yardage (2,657) and touchdowns (26).

In the Orange County Bowl earlier this month, he caught 10 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns, leading Valley to a 36-28 victory against Rancho Santiago.

While at Chatsworth High, he was an All-City Section quarterback. During his senior year in 1991, he passed for 1,125 yards, leading area City quarterbacks. He redshirted at Valley in 1992, still trying to play quarterback, and was then moved to receiver to make room for Sean Fitzgerald, who now plays at Pittsburgh.
