COMMUNITY COLLEGE NOTES : Four Named All-American in Football

Four Orange County players were selected second-team All-Americans by the J.C Grid-Wire. Rancho Santiago defensive back Andre Holmes, Mission Conference defense player of the year, made the second team. He was joined by Saddleback return specialist Shad Hinchen and Golden West defensive lineman Van Tuinei.

Edgar Macias, a Rancho Santiago lineman, was the only local offensive player named to the team. Holmes is the only freshman in the group.

Players earning honorable mention:

Simon Fuentes, QB, Rancho Santiago; Jeff Clayton, RB, Orange Coast; Ernie Wilson, RB, Rancho Santiago; Mark Bigoner, OL, Fullerton; Josh Micklos, DL, Fullerton; Josh Nevadomsky, LB, Fullerton; Andy Osborne, LB, Saddleback; Jim Wren, P, Fullerton.

Hans Steinkellner of Fullerton was a first-team, scholar-athlete All-American. He has a grade-point average of 3.6. He plans to major in engineering. Macias earned honorable mention.

Pam Prine was named the Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer player of the year for the second consecutive year by the conference’s coaches.

Prine, from Troy High, made the All-American team for the second consecutive year. Prine is a talented defender and a skilled offensive player. She finished with 10 goals and five assists.

Prine was one of five Cypress players on the first team. The Chargers have won three consecutive conference titles.

Fullerton’s Melinda Bowen was the coach of the year.
