Jelani Janisse scored 23 points to lead the Kennedy High basketball team to an 81-61 victory over Village Christian in the championship game of the Bell-Jeff tournament on Friday night.

Keith Brydon added 12 points and nine rebounds and Trevon Scott scored 14 points for the Golden Cougars (7-2). Dave Gustafson led Village Christian (5-5) with 22 points.

Simi Valley 73, Chaminade 42--Dan Van Etten scored 14 points to lead the Pioneers (7-1) in a nonleague game. Scott Blough added 11 and Anthony Tauriello and J.J. Washington each had 10 points. Tauriello also had 11 assists. All 10 Simi Valley players scored.

The Pioneers put the game away by outscoring Chaminade, 28-10, in the second quarter after leading only 10-6 through the first eight minutes.

Arash Safai and Carmine Rossi each scored 12 points to lead the Eagles (5-3).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Santa Ynez 53, Notre Dame 50--Maggie Dixon missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer as the Knights lost the third-place game in the Santa Barbara tournament.

Senior guard Carla Arrue scored a career-high 17 points and had eight rebounds for Notre Dame (9-4).

Peninsula 60, Thousand Oaks 44--Jenn Detmer had 19 points for Thousand Oaks (5-5) in the consolation final of the Santa Barbara tournament. Allison Fortner had a game-high 20 points for Peninsula, the defending Southern Section Division 1-AA champion.

Simi Valley 55, Ventura 53--Angela Mosesso made two free throws with 19.3 seconds left to break a 53-53 tie and secure third place for the Pioneers (11-3) in the Simi Valley tournament.

Mosesso finished with 15 points.

Kristen Franklin scored 21 points for Ventura (3-4).

North Hollywood 62, Chaminade 59--All-tournament guard Anna Celaya scored a school-record 35 points to lead the Huskies (5-2) in the fifth-place game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Celaya, a senior who broke the school’s career scoring record Thursday night, scored 20 in the first half as North Hollywood took a 29-24 lead.

Guard Sheila Shilati scored 19 points for Chaminade (7-5).

Kennedy 61, Channel Islands 59--Tami Ross scored 21 points to lead the Golden Cougars (9-5) in the seventh-place game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Channel Islands (5-5) was paced by Danielle Curtis, who scored 22 points.

Hart 53, Bell-Jeff 32--All-tournament guard LaCresha Clark scored 11 points to lead Hart (6-3) to the consolation championship of the Simi Valley tournament.

Pasadena 42, Louisville 35--Kari Crawley had 10 points and six steals and Rosie Chingcuangco added nine points for Louisville (5-6) in the 11th-place game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Dana Howard scored 18 points for Pasadena (6-4).
