COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Softball Team Wins, Takes Over Second Place

Rancho Santiago moved into sole possession of second place with a 3-1 victory over Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Friday at Fullerton.
The Dons (19-8, 10-2 in conference) are one game behind first-place Cypress and one ahead of third-place Fullerton (17-5, 9-3).
Rancho Santiago got one run in the fifth on an RBI single by Courtney Kerley and two more in the sixth. Renee Taylor drove in one run with a single and the other scored on an error.
Fullerton’s run came on sixth-inning home run by Kristy Hensel, her first of the season.
In other Orange Empire Conference softball games:
Cypress 5, Riverside 1--Jenn Allchin had four hits and drove in two runs for Cypress (22-4, 11-1), which won at Riverside for the first time since 1991.
Deborah Goddu pitched a four-hitter to improve to 8-2 and Amber Harris and Briana Yoshina also had doubles for the Chargers.
Orange Coast 4, Golden West 2--Orange Coast (7-13, 5-7) won its 19th consecutive game over Golden West as Sammy Foster singled and scored on an error in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie.
Saddleback 5, Irvine Valley 1--Stacy Lumley pitched a three-hitter and struck out six for Saddleback (14-9, 6-6). Mina Vo was two for three for Irvine Valley (3-18, 2-10).
In Orange Empire Conference golf:
Orange Coast 392, Fullerton 438, Golden West 476--Orange Coast’s Chris Ny shot a two-over 74 for the low round at Western Hills.
In nonconference golf:
Cypress 375, College of the Desert 383, Citrus 395, Cerritos 435--Brian Ricketts shot a one-under-par 70 and John Teutimez shot a one-over 72 to lead Cypress (14-5) at Cypress Golf Club.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:
Golden West 6, Fullerton 3--Mindy Ritchie swept her singles sets without giving up a game to lead Golden West (10-1, 9-0).
In Orange Empire Conference volleyball:
Golden West 3, Mt. San Antonio 0--Greg Reitz had 21 kills to lead Golden West (11-3, 9-3), 15-3, 15-7, 15-13. Mt. San Antonio dropped to 1-11.
Irvine Valley 3, El Camino 1--John Habben had 16 kills and Eric Thernambucq had 52 assists to lead Irvine Valley (6-6), 15-3, 10-15, 15-5, 15-3.
Orange Coast 3, Pasadena 0--Jesse Simon led Orange Coast with 13 kills as the Pirates swept Pasadena, 15-8, 15-4, 15-13.
