HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : A Calabasas Hit Parade to Tune of 25-1

Calabasas High took advantage of three-hit games by five players to overwhelm Littlerock, 25-1, in pool play of the Bishop Gorman tournament Thursday in Las Vegas.

Jared Sandler had six runs batted in, including a three-run home run in the first inning to ignite Calabasas (12-0). Brett Niles added five RBIs and Tanner Trosper had three doubles and four RBIs.

Josh Harris and Zach Fields also had three hits as the Coyotes piled up 23.

Littlerock (4-13) used nine pitchers.

Sylmar 3, East (Utah) 1--Rene Zavala had a run-scoring single in the second inning and a run-scoring double in the fourth inning for the Spartans (10-3).

Kennedy 2, West Jordan (Utah) 1--Jon Garland’s first home run--a two-out, two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning--lifted the Golden Cougars (11-3) to a pool-play victory.

Robert Montesdeoca received no decision for his six-inning stint, allowing an unearned run on two hits, striking out five and walking four.

George Kassis (1-0) struck out two of the three batters he faced.

RANCHO CORDOVA TOURNAMENT

Hart 7, Elk Grove 1--The Indians got two hits each by Jeremy Seipel, Brian Baron and Luis Sanchez, and trounced Elk Grove (10-7) in the championship game at Sacramento.

Hart (10-6) had seven hits while three Indian pitchers limited Elk Grove to one. Chris Baker went three innings before giving way to Ron Jones, who was relieved by Sanchez in the sixth.

ST. PAUL TOURNAMENT

St. John Bosco 5, Crespi 1--Brian Luderer had two hits for the Celts (6-9), who were held to five singles in their first round-robin game at Valley College.

Bud Smith had three hits and three RBIs and scored twice for St. John Bosco (8-9). Smith had two doubles and a solo homer in the sixth.

Mayfair 11, Chaminade 8--Ryan Hamill had three hits and teammate Gabe Crecion added two, including his fourth home run, but the Eagles (7-9) lost in the first round.

Brandon Gray (1-1) took the loss.

Bell-Jeff 12, Serra 10--Josh Readman’s three-run home run in the seventh inning keyed a six-run rally for the Guards (10-4).

John Pawlik stole home twice for Bell-Jeff, and hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a leadoff triple in the seventh.

Pius X 5, Providence 4--Casey Starr and Derek Pflug had seventh-inning home runs but the Pioneers’ comeback fell short when the tying run was stranded at third base.

Pius X (2-4) had a 5-0 lead before Providence (3-8) scored four times in the seventh.

Bishop Montgomery 2, Notre Dame 1--Bishop Montgomery scored two runs without a hit after Andy Lutz (1-0) walked the bases loaded in the fifth inning. Notre Dame (7-6-1) scored on Sean Hanrahan’s squeeze in the fourth.

SANTA BARBARA TOURNAMENT

Royal 13, Dos Pueblos 3--Adrian Mendoza pitched a four-hitter for the Highlanders in pool play.

Royal’s Dan Lemos had four hits and three RBIs for Royal.

Royal 10, San Marcos 5--Dorrin Stitt had two hits and an RBI for the Highlanders (12-5).

RBI TOURNAMENT

Roosevelt 6, Harvard-Westlake 4--Peter Richards doubled in two runs for the Wolverines (1-13).

NONLEAGUE

Campbell Hall 22, South Bay Lutheran 2--The Vikings (6-5) sent 26 batters to the plate in the first inning of the nonleague blowout, scoring 20 runs on 12 hits.

Andreas Fehrle had five hits and three RBIs.

Montclair Prep 14, Oakwood 3--Brandon Michaels had three hits, including two doubles, scored three times and had a pair of RBIs for the Mounties (11-4).

Brad Warner (3-2) pitched four innings for the Mounties while teammates Eli Reichline and Joe Cohen each had three RBIs.

DELPHIC LEAGUE

Faith Baptist 18, Brentwood 7--Judd Granzow hit a grand slam, drove in five runs and scored three times for the Contenders (8-5, 1-1) at Faith Baptist.

TRI-VALLEY LEAGUE

St. Bonaventure 7, Carpinteria 3--Jojo Molina had two hits for the host Seraphs (6-5, 2-3), driving in three runs and scoring once.
