PREP ROUNDUP : Salloun Helps Edison Beat Fountain Valley

Mark Salloun’s two-out RBI single in the top of the sixth inning helped unranked Edison to a 4-2 victory over top-ranked Fountain Valley in a Sunset League baseball game Saturday at Fountain Valley High.

Salloun, Andy Linnen and Steve Williams each had two hits for the Chargers (9-12, 3-8).

Salloun’s RBI single made the score 3-2 before Jeff Gonterman’s bases-empty home run in the seventh inning completed the scoring.

In another Sunset League game:

Esperanza 10, Los Alamitos 6--Jason Webb went three for four and Greg Smith went two for four for visiting Esperanza (10-10, 5-6), which scored nine runs in the fourth. Los Alamitos is 7-13, 3-8.

In Academy League baseball:

Liberty Christian 4, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Ray Cook pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and Bryan Davis went two for three with a double, an RBI and three stolen bases for Liberty Christian (10-4, 5-0). Cook has 67 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings.

In Olympic League softball:

Calvary Chapel 3, Orange Lutheran 2--Sara Garrido doubled to lead off the ninth, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a pickoff attempt that sailed into left field for Calvary Chapel (4-2 in league). Keri Pryzgocki gave up six hits and struck out 12 for the Eagles.

In the Irvine City boys’ swimming championships:

Irvine 269, Woodbridge 201, University 137--Steve Ronson won the 100-yard freestyle (47.52) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.14) for Irvine (10-0).

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Santa Margarita 87, Mater Dei 82--Phillipe Demers won the 500 freestyle (5:29.4) and 100 backstroke (58.2) for Santa Margarita.

In the Irvine City girls’ swimming championships:

Irvine 295, Woodbridge 177, University 117--Wendy O’Brien won the 50 freestyle (24.27) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.32) to lead Irvine (11-0).
