HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Hart Wins, 2-0, Colleran Wins 20th

Mary Colleran earned her 20th victory of the season with a one-hit shutout, leading Hart High to a 2-0 victory over Hesperia Friday in the first round of the Southern Section Division II playoffs at Newhall Park.

Colleran (20-7), a junior, struck out nine, walked one and did not allow allow a baserunner to reach second. She entered the game with a 0.57 ERA and has 216 strikeouts in 180 innings.

Hart (21-8) scored both runs in the sixth inning when pinch-runner Courtney Sherlock scored on a wild pitch and Tracy Clark, who reached base on an error, scored on another fielding miscue.

In another Division II game:

Bellflower 4, Canyon 3--Tammy Hughes had two hits and Crystl Bustos slugged a solo home run in the seventh to pull the Cowboys (14-13) within one run, but they got no closer in a game at Bellflower.

DIVISION I

Newbury Park 7, Downey 2--After allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, the Panthers scored five runs in the ninth at Downey.

Run-scoring singles by Christine Arguijo, Kristi Fox and Emily Webster generated the rally for the Panthers (19-8). Fox (15-5) pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and two walks and striking out four.

Westlake 4, Rio Mesa 1--Kelly DeArman (21-5) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 11 and walking seven to pace the Warriors (22-6) at Westlake.

Arin Carlson went four for four for the Warriors, driving in a run and scoring once. DeArman had two hits and an RBI.

Camarillo 2, Warren 0--Freshman pitcher Cindy Ball allowed one hit and struck out 13 in six innings for the Scorpions at Camarillo.

Camarillo (22-4-1) scored the only run it needed when Jessica Ziese doubled and was driven home on a single by Julie Borchard.

Thousand Oaks 2, Buena 0--Sophomore Jennifer Sharron pitched a two-hitter and had four strikeouts as the Lancers upset Channel League champion Buena (22-4) at Buena.

Dot Bente scored the first run for Thousand Oaks (16-8-1) on an error in the third inning, and Megan Keesling added an insurance run in the sixth on a single by Angela Ciufo.

DIVISION III

Alemany 6, Culver City 0--Sophie Contreraz (24-1) pitched her 17th shutout, striking out eight without issuing a walk and allowing four hits to lead the Indians (26-1) at Alemany.

Highland 3, Chaminade 0--Kristi Globig broke a Southern Section record with her seventh triple to help the Bulldogs (14-14) advance with a victory at Chaminade.

DIVISION IV

La Canada 2, Atascadero 0--Lindsay Parker (21-3) had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings for La Canada (21-3) on the Spartans’ home field. She finished with nine strikeouts, no walks and her 12th one-hitter.

DIVISION V

Village Christian 4, Bishop Union 0--Jessie Leivo (8-2) and Jackie Aranda combined on a three-hitter, and Clanci Lehman, Laura Robbins and Sarah Sutton each added three hits for the Crusaders (17-6) on their home field.

Calabasas 6, Morro Bay 0--Melissa Krolik (15-4) pitched her first no-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one for Calabasas (15-5) in a game at Morro Bay.

Moorpark 3, Templeton 0--Mindy Penrod (11-4) stunned the Eagles by striking out 16, allowing only two hits and walking two to lead the Musketeers (18-6) at Moorpark.

Debbie Forfar and Meaghan Finnerty each had two hits for Moorpark.

Oak Park 3, Crossroads 1--Christy Argast and Tammi Beck scored in the seventh inning on Colleen McDonald’s single to give Oak Park (16-9) the victory at Crossroads. Shana Silverman singled in McDonald, providing the final margin.

La Reina 4, St. Monica 1--Jennifer Baltruzak allowed five hits but only one unearned run in the sixth to pace the Regents (21-5) at La Reina. Baltruzak struck out 10.

Fillmore 7, Mojave 2--Nicole Ortiz (8-3) struck out 13 and walked four to pace the Flashes (15-5) at Fillmore.
