AMERICAN LEGION ROUNDUP : Yamaoka Spins Victory for Valley South

Taiki Yamaoka, a Japanese exchange student, pitched a six-hitter for Valley South in a 3-1 District 20 victory over Woodland Hills West on Saturday at Birmingham High.

Yamaoka (2-1) struck out 10 and walked three, allowing one earned run. Facundo Barrera had two hits and Donny Wingo added two runs batted in for Valley South (5-2).

Newhall-Santa Clarita 20, Van Nuys West 2--Aaron Dean hit three solo home runs and drove in seven runs to lead Newhall-Santa Clarita (6-0). Chad Ott had four hits.

Antelope Valley South 7, Sepulveda 6--Kevin Barlow singled home Chris Wurster in the 10th to give host Antelope Valley the victory.

Woodland Hills East 6, Glendale 4--Mike Rolbin homered and singled and Greg Venger tripled and singled for Woodland Hills East (3-2) at Taft.

Sun Valley 7, San Fernando 0--Steve Guerrero drove in three runs, and Jerry Delgado added three hits for Sun Valley (3-2) at Poly High.

Sunland-Tujunga 11, North Hollywood West 4--Jason Robitaille hit two home runs and drove in five runs for Sunland-Tujunga.

North Hollywood East 13, Panorama City 2--Andy Gadt (1-0) and Nick Cramer combined on a two-hitter for North Hollywood East (1-3) at Franklin Field.

Encino 8, Quartz Hill 2--Andy Campanella had four hits and drove in two runs for Encino (1-2) at Valley College.

DISTRICT 16

Westlake-Royal-Oak 21, Simi Valley 18--Westlake-Royal-Oak blew a 12-1 sixth-inning lead, then rallied for four runs in the 10th at Simi Valley High. Matt Riordan hit for the cycle and had five RBIs.

Ventura 5, Camarillo 1--James Melcher of Ventura had two hits and scored two runs, and also pitched a four-hitter.

Thousand Oaks 14, Newbury Park 6--Nick Smith and Tyler Holmes each had three hits for Thousand Oaks.
