10 Area Players Honored : Baseball: Canale, Wilson, Luderer, Riordan and Scott on All-Southern Section’s Division I squad.

Ten area high school baseball players were named to the All-Southern Section teams in Divisions I, II and III.

Infielders on the Division I team include senior Kasey Canale of Crescenta Valley, who batted .450, and juniors Jack Wilson of Thousand Oaks, who hit .581, and Brian Luderer of Crespi, a .471 hitter. Outfielders chosen were junior Matt Riordan of Westlake, who batted .560 with 11 doubles and five triples, and sophomore Bill Scott of Alemany, a .471 hitter with 34 runs batted in.

Senior catcher Monty Moritz of Ventura and senior infielder Eric Flores of Rio Mesa were selected in Division II. Moritz batted .487 with five home runs and Flores hit .442 and stole 15 bases.

Division III honorees include Quartz Hill right-hander Darrell Hussman (9-1), who struck out 83 in 61 1/3 innings, Palmdale catcher Chris Paxton, who batted .493 with six home runs and 34 RBIs, and Hart infielder Luis Sanchez, who batted .390 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs. All are seniors.
