Shane Anderson didn’t see many good pitches this season. But then, she didn’t expect to.

Anderson, a senior shortstop for La Reina High in Thousand Oaks who has accepted a scholarship to Stanford, had established herself as one of the most-feared hitters in the history of Ventura County softball before one pitch was thrown this season.

As a junior, she batted .384 with eight home runs and a .781 slugging percentage and was selected Tri-Valley League player of the year.

Anderson attracted the interest of Northwestern, Penn State, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal State Northridge.

“I just always wanted to go to Stanford,” said Anderson, The Times’ Ventura County player of the year. “It was a childhood dream, I guess.”

She posted a .393 average with four home runs and a team-high 27 runs batted in. With Anderson batting cleanup, La Reina rolled to another league championship and advanced to the Southern Section Division V final, losing to Cerritos Valley Christian, 1-0, in 10 innings.
