TWO-TIME CHAMPS?: They won last year’s Little League state championship. Now the Thousand Oaks All-Stars are trying to become repeat champions (B1) . . . If the team of 9- and 10-year-olds wins today’s match against a North Mission Viejo club, it advances to the state championship on Sunday. . . . Said All-Stars manager Ed Kitchen of his young players: “They want it badly.”

NO PARKING: Big rigs are a common site along a stretch of Los Angeles Avenue at the west end of Simi Valley. Unfortunately, the parked trucks do not sit well with neighboring homeowners (B6). . . . Residents have complained about poisonous diesel fumes and loud truck noises. They have signed a petition asking the city to ban the trucks. . . . “If we wanted to live this way we certainly wouldn’t own or rent property in this neighborhood,” they wrote in the petition.

BIG JOB: It’s not easy moving the remains of a horse, cow or other large animal. So Moorpark resident Roberta Warne started Dignified Dead Animal Disposal 13 years ago (B1). . . . Warne uses a heavy-duty Ford truck equipped with a winch to help her do her job. . . . Although it can be a difficult and sometimes unusual task, Warne said she is always understanding of her customers’ needs. . . . “When you go out there, you have to remember that it’s like you’re going to be handling a member of the family,” she said.

GOODBY PARTY: Ventura College will host a going-away barbecue picnic today for basketball coach Philip Matthews. . . . Matthews, who led his team to two state championships during his 10 years at Ventura, was recently hired by University of San Francisco. . . . Los Angeles Laker Cedric Ceballos will be among the guest speakers at today’s event, which begins at noon on campus. . . . Phil Passno, director of the physical education department, said Matthews will be hard to replace. “He’s a once-in-a-lifetime guy for a community college.”
