INDOOR SOCCER : Down 4-0, Splash Roars Back to Beat San Jose

The Splash battled back from a 4-0, first-quarter deficit and Preki’s second-consecutive hat trick to defeat the San Jose Grizzlies, 7-6, in a Continental Indoor Soccer League game Saturday night at San Jose Arena.

The Grizzlies opened the game with four consecutive goals, two by their star Preki.

The Splash battled back with goals by Doug Neely and Jose Vasquez in the second quarter to cut the the lead to 4-2.

The Splash’s Dennis Hamlett opened the third quarter with a goal, making it 4-3, but the Grizzlies (7-7) scored twice, including one by Preki, his third, to complete the hat trick. Thursday, Preki turned the hat trick against the Arizona Sandsharks.

Sean Bowers finished the quarter with the first of his two goals to cut the Grizzlies’ lead to 6-4.

The Splash scored three goals in the fourth quarter to come back. Hamlett started the quarter with his second goal, Raffaele Ruotolo scored his only goal and Bowers scored the game-winner at the 7:35 mark.

The Splash (9-7) will finish its three-game trip today against the Knights in Sacramento.
