CSUN Baseball Faces Possible WAC Ousting

Share

Western Athletic Conference athletic directors recommended a proposal last week that could eliminate Cal State Northridge’s baseball team from the conference in 1997.

The vote on the proposal, which has to be approved by the presidents of the schools, was 7-4 with one abstention.

Northridge, a part-time WAC member, was not represented in the vote, but Blenda J. Wilson, the school’s president, will take part in the final decision.

The move came the same week Northridge officials moved toward joining the Big Sky Conference in 1997. The Big Sky Conference does not sponsor baseball.

The WAC wants to have only full-time members play baseball.

If the proposal is not supported by the presidents, another option involves a 15-team, two-division baseball conference, with Northridge included.
