Clay Gallops for 301 Yards in 20-20 Tie
Running back Dante Clay of North Hollywood High rushed for 301 yards in 21 carries and scored on runs of six and 77 yards, but El Camino Real came back from a two-touchdown deficit Friday night to force a 20-20 tie in a nonleague game.
Clay rushed for 150 yards and both of his touchdowns came in the first quarter.
The Conquistadores had a chance to win, but kicker Roee Meisels’ 45-yard field-goal attempt with 10 seconds left fell short.
El Camino Real quarterback Shaun Fishman completed eight of 14 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Byron Carnes caught four passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. Running back J.D. Sumlin rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown in 10 carries.
The Conquistadores had a balanced attack: 166 yards passing, 142 yards rushing. North Hollywood rushed for 372 yards, but quarterback Jesus Acosta had no completions in four attempts and threw two interceptions.
El Camino Real cornerback Damian Illiams’ interception at the Conquistadore 20-yard line with 1:50 left stopped North Hollywood’s final drive.
Quincy Wright of El Camino Real rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown.
