PREP EXTRA: ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Sophomore Gets Job Done in Tustin’s 22-7 Victory

Sophomore running back DeShaun Foster and a tenacious defense helped Myron Miller earn his first victory as Tustin’s head coach.

Foster rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown in 26 carries and the defense recorded two sacks and three interceptions in a 22-7 nonleague victory over ninth-ranked Los Amigos on Friday night.

The Tillers (1-1) relied heavily on Foster after the team’s leading rusher, Brandon Lambert, left the game in the second quarter because of a sprained right ankle.

But Foster, who gained 77 yards in 17 carries against Foothill last week, was up to the task against the Lobos (1-1).

“I was pretty scared,” Foster said. “But after a couple of carries, I was ready to run.”

Foster scored the decisive touchdown with 9 minutes 43 seconds left in the game when he broke off tackle on the left side and ran 29 yards for the score. He ran in for the two-point conversion, his second of the game.

Tustin’s Greg Carnal scored what turned out to be the game-winner on a nine-yard run in the second quarter.

Los Amigos scored its lone touchdown just before halftime to cut Tustin’s lead to 14-7 when Shaun Tagatauli went in from a yard. The Lobos successfully recovered an onside kick, but Ryan Cleary missed a 29-yard field-goal attempt.

Tustin’s defense held Lobo running back Greg Fausto to 28 yards in 11 carries. Quarterback Jacob Sanchez was Los Amigos’ biggest offensive weapon with 44 yards rushing and 189 yards passing.
