Orange Lutheran 32, Laguna Beach 3--Sophomore reserve quarterback Justin Smith teamed with senior running back Che Holloway, as Orange Lutheran won a nonleague game at Brea Olinda High.

Smith, replacing starter Nick Odenath who separated his shoulder last week, completed 10 of 17 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown. He also carried the ball nine times for 78 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

On the Lancers’ (2-1) first drive, Smith connected with Mike Crawford in the end zone for a 37-yard touchdown pass and a 7-3 lead with 5:45 remaining in the first quarter.

On the next possession, Orange Lutheran drove 83 yards on 10 plays, capped by a Holloway one-yard touchdown run, giving the Lancers a 13-3 lead after a missed two-point conversion attempt. Holloway finished the game with 134 yards in 14 carries.

Smith put the Lancers up, 19-3, five minutes later with an 11-yard touchdown run with 4:14 left in the first half. His second rushing touchdown came on a 15-yard run with 2:15 remaining in the half, putting the Lancers up, 25-3.

The Lancers’ final touchdown came on a one-yard run by fullback Ben Willits with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

Orange Lutheran’s defense held Laguna Beach (1-2) to just 13 yards in the first half. The Artists finished with 145 yards total offense.

The Lancers had three sacks on the night, pushing Laguna Beach back a total of 34 yards.
