SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Two different defenses showed up for Kilpatrick on Friday night, but Montclair Prep needed only one as the Mounties defeated the Mustangs, 36-0, in a nonleague game at Valley College.

Akil Anderson rushed for 153 yards in 24 carries and scored two touchdowns. Carlease Clark added three touchdowns as the Mounties (4-0) turned a defensive battle into a rout.

The Mountie defense held Kilpatrick (1-3) to only 16 yards and didn’t allow a first down. The Mustangs’ longest play from scrimmage was a 10-yard pass.

Kilpatrick defensive leader James Latu, a 5-foot-10, 290-pound lineman, was ejected because of unsportsmanlike conduct in the second quarter, and Montclair Prep scored minutes later. Clark capped a four-play, 37-yard drive after a short punt with a seven-yard run for an 8-0 halftime lead.

When Kilpatrick returned for the second half, the Mustangs forgot to bring their defense. Mountie quarterback Robert Neumann, who completed six of nine passes for 96 yards, led an 81-yard drive to start the second half. Anderson capped the match with a 34-yard run.

Five plays later, Clemente Ortega recovered a Jonathan Chambers fumble at the Mustang 12-yard line, setting up Anderson’s one-yard run for a 22-0 lead.

A 57-yard punt return by Ken Peffer helped set up the final Mountie score, a three-yard run by Clark.
