The Cathedral football team has had to forfeit victories over L.A. Wilson and Lincoln because of an ineligible player. The Phantoms’ record now is 1-3. . . . Belmont and Marshall renew one of the City Section’s oldest football rivalries Friday night at Poly High at 7. The series began in 1934 and Marshall leads, 31-21-7. The game was moved from Belmont to Poly to try to lessen potential problems outside the stadium. . . . After scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter, Bell escaped with a 21-20 victory over Roosevelt last Thursday. Senior Vern Benard led the Eagles with 186 yards rushing, including touchdown runs of 65 and six yards. . . . Loyola’s 38-6 loss to Antelope Valley on Friday was the most lopsided at the school since 1980, when Fontana defeated the Cubs, 36-0. Loyola was without starting quarterback Scott Walter, who has a broken right hand and is not expected to return for at least two more weeks. . . . The Dorsey girls’ tennis team has not been able to field a full squad, but junior Kendra Segura continues to be a bright spot. The school’s No. 1 singles player has won all three of her matches this season and is 35-1 the past three years. Segura won the city finals as a freshman and was second as a sophomore. . . . Matt Miles scored four goals and Peter Baldwin and Ethan Holmes added three each to lead Loyola to a 21-4 victory over Encino Crespi in a water polo match Monday. Loyola improved its record to 13-6.
