ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / PREP EXTRA : Brito, Duarte Lead Cypress Past Katella

ANAHEIM — Bobby Brito and Mike Duarte each scored two touchdowns as Cypress defeated Katella, 35-20, in an Empire League game Friday night at Glover Stadium.
Brito gave the Centurions (2-5, 2-0) a 7-0 lead with a one-yard touchdown run. It was set up by Jeff Flaming’s blocked punt that was recovered at Katella’s one-yard line.
Cypress scored on its next possession when Duarte ran over from the one. Following a fumble by Katella’s Dustin Goetz that was recovered by Matt Conde, Brito increased the Centurion margin to 21-0 on a 12-yard touchdown run.
Duarte’s second touchdown put the game away for the Centurions with 1:41 left in the third quarter. He intercepted a lateral by Katella quarterback John Baldridge are raced 47 yards into the end zone.
Katella (1-6, 1-1), which did not get a first down until late in the first half, scored on a one-yard sneak by Baldridge. The Knights closed the halftime gap to 28-10 when Carlos Flores kicked the first of his two field goals, this one good for 39 yard.
Baldridge connected with Josh Welton on a 47-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left in the game.
