BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Harvard-Westlake Has Day at Beach, 66-48

Harvard-Westlake High rebounded from a first-round loss to defeat Vero Beach, 66-48, Tuesday in the consolation quarterfinals of the City of Palms tournament at Ft. Myers, Fla.

Harvard (5-1) surged to a 33-21 halftime lead.

Junior forward Jarron Collins led the Wolverines with 13 points and 10 rebounds. His brother, center Jason Collins, had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Harvard, which lost to Cape Coral Mariner, 83-78, Monday, plays East Anchorage, Alaska in today’s consolation semifinals.

Notre Dame 75, La Canada 53--Ryan Bowne scored 24 points to lead the Knights in a semifinal of the La Canada tournament. Tim Anderson had 23 points for the Knights (5-4), who will play Bishop Montgomery in tonight’s final.

Sophomore center Matthew Moore scored 18 points and Todd Crane added 14 for La Canada (7-4).

Bishop Montgomery 61, Alemany 44--Solomon Hughes scored 16 points and Brandon Price added 15 as the Knights (8-0) secured a spot in tonight’s final of the La Canada tournament.

Senior guard Mario Thompson had 19 points for Alemany (7-4).

Montclair Prep 70, Reseda 68--Jeff Benson scored 19 points and Akil Anderson added 18 points and 10 assists for the Mounties (8-2) in a Van Nuys tournament semifinal.

Anwawn Jones contributed 16 points and nine rebounds for Montclair Prep. Mandeep Hayre scored 23 points for Reseda (4-5).

MEN

The Master’s 111, Patten 71--Leo Gorauskas scored 25 points, and Jeremiah Cathey and Reggie Robinson added 16 and 15 as the host Mustangs took an early 27-5 lead and were never challenged in a nonconference game.

Mike Penberthy added 13 points and five assists for the Mustangs (7-3).

WOMEN

Long Beach State 75, Cal State Northridge 72--Carrie Dormire scored 21 points and had seven rebounds for host Northridge (1-8) in a nonconference game.

Occidental 66, The Master’s 65--Laura Fralich scored 18 points and Kim DeVries had 14 points and 10 rebounds, but the Mustangs (3-9) lost in the Grand Canyon tournament.

Freshman Anna Celaya, formerly of North Hollywood High, led Occidental (1-5) with 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.

GIRLS

Crescenta Valley 67, Las Vegas 38--Amirah Leonard and Michelle Greco each scored 19 points as the Falcons (10-0) advanced to the title game of the Cheyenne tournament in Las Vegas.
