BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Collins Mix Powers Harvard

Jason Collins had 21 points and 14 rebounds as Harvard-Westlake High advanced to the consolation title game of the City of Palms tournament at Ft. Myers, Fla., with a 63-55 victory Wednesday over East Anchorage (Alaska).

Collins, a junior center, also had three blocked shots.

Twin Jarron Collins added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Aaron Trombley scored 14 points for East Anchorage (5-2).

Harvard (6-1) plays Jacksonville Jackson today at 8:45 a.m. (PST) before moving on to the Slam Dunk at the Beach tournament Dec. 28 in Lewes, Del.

Western (Las Vegas) 82, Chatsworth 76--Eddie Miller had 34 points and 17 rebounds, and Jerome Joseph added 31 points but the rest of the Chancellors (2-4) could muster only 11 points in a consolation game of the Durango tournament in Las Vegas.

L.A. Baptist 72, Crespi 69--Jermaine Sweet scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter and made a three-point basket with under a minute left in the quarterfinals of the Valencia tournament.

Montclair Prep 74, Van Nuys 64--Akil Anderson had 19 points and 11 steals, and Anwawn Jones added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Mounties (9-2) in the championship game of the Van Nuys tournament.

GIRLS

Crescenta Valley 72, Westminster 68--Amirah Leonard scored 24 points and tournament most valuable player Michelle Greco added 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Falcons (11-0) won the Cheyenne tournament in Las Vegas.

Taft 63, Van Nuys 45--Vanessa Dunn collected 30 points and 10 rebounds, and Nyoki McKeith added 12 points, eight assists and six steals for the Toreadors (9-0) in the championship game of the Van Nuys tournament.

Chatsworth 58, Kennedy 53--Grace Lui came off the bench to score 14 points and lift the Chancellors (7-3) to the consolation title in the Van Nuys tournament.

El Camino Real 81, Canoga Park 42--Tami Jones scored 30 points for the Conquistadores in the Van Nuys tournament consolation final.

Harvard-Westlake 51, Alhambra 47--The Wolverines (9-2) erased an 11-0 deficit by holding the Moors to 14 second-half points in the Alhambra tournament.

Thousand Oaks 77, Bakersfield 26--The Lancers started with an 18-4 run and never let up in the second round of pool play at the Santa Barbara tournament.

Bell-Jeff 68, Maranatha 37--Stacey Cobb had 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Guards (9-1) in a nonleague rout at Maranatha.

Pasadena 49, North Hollywood 40--Samantha Fargeon had 10 points and nine rebounds but the Huskies fell in a quarterfinal game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Newbury Park 49, Chaminade 19--Melissa Shoden scored 18 points for the Panthers (5-4) in a consolation game at Simi Valley.

Hart 48, Burbank 34--Candace Boller had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Hart (5-4) in a consolation game at Simi Valley.

WOMEN

Grand Canyon 65, The Master’s 47--Laura Fralich scored 14 points but the Mustangs (3-10) fell short in the Grand Canyon tournament at Phoenix.

Ventura 94, El Camino 37--April Garrish had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Pirates (13-0) in a nonconference game at Ventura.
