Kelly’s Late Basket Carries Antelope Valley Past Hoover

Le’tre Kelly made a five-foot shot with 11 seconds left to give Antelope Valley High the lead for good in a 69-66 victory over Hoover in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Tuesday at Hoover.

Kelly’s shot gave the Antelopes (11-4) a 67-66 lead. Tony Walker (16 points) hit two free throws for the final score.

Eric Jenkins missed a three-point shot as time expired for Hoover (7-6).

Antelope Valley, which trailed by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter, made all 17 of its free-throw attempts in the second half.

Glendale 97, Keppel 90--Steve Avetyan scored 41 points as the Dynamiters (6-9) earned a nonleague, quadruple-overtime victory on the road.

Arman Apikov added 22 points and 23 rebounds for Glendale, and Armen Kazaryan had six points and seven blocked shots.

Montclair Prep 74, Western Christian 61--Scott Stark scored 15 of his 23 points in the first half for the visiting Mounties (12-3) in a nonleague game.

Anwawn Jones scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Akil Anderson had 12 points and 10 assists.

L.A. Baptist 61, Paraclete 57--Jermaine Sweet and Ryan Davis combined to score 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Knights came from behind to win a nonleague game at home.

Sweet (19 points, eight steals) had eight points and three steals in the fourth quarter and Davis scored seven of his 15 points as L.A. Baptist (10-4) outscored Paraclete (3-8), 23-12.

GIRLS

Buena 65, Santa Barbara 35--The host Bulldogs (9-0) had 22 steals in a Channel League opener. Nicole Greathouse had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Buena, and Kori Sebek added 10 points, six assists and six steals.

Oxnard 43, Rio Mesa 38--The Yellowjackets (7-4) used a full-court press and their speed advantage to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit in a Channel League opener at Rio Mesa.

Nicole Black scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half and Jaline Bradley scored nine of her 14 after intermission.

Trina Ayala scored 16 points for the Spartans (7-4) and Chante Guggia added 13.

Simi Valley 58, Newbury Park 41--Jamie Griffin scored 19 points for the Pioneers (13-2, 2-1) in a Marmonte League game. Tawnee Cooper added 13 points for the host Pioneers.

Thousand Oaks 65, Channel Islands 32--Jenn Detmer scored 15 points, Nicole Woodruff had 12 and Michelle Stevenson added 10 for the Lancers (12-4, 3-0) in a Marmonte League game.

Westlake 56, Royal 53--Megan Carmola scored 10 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Warriors (7-7, 2-1) erased a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter of the Marmonte League game. Amber Shores had 12 point for Royal (8-6, 2-1).

Agoura 61, Camarillo 58--Junior Kristin DeSimone had 26 points, 17 rebounds and four blocked shots for the host Chargers (4-7, 2-1) in a Marmonte League game.

Michelle Pollara had 12 points and seven assists for Agoura, which suited up only six players. Meghan Skelly also scored 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Bell-Jeff 80, Crossroads 48--Carmen Coronado scored all 13 of her points, including three three-point baskets, in the third quarter for the Guards (13-2) in a nonleague game.

Carolyn Nielsen had 17 points and 16 rebounds for Bell-Jeff.

Hart 39, Littlerock 29--Candace Boller scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds for the Indians (9-7) in a nonleague game at Valencia High.
