Antelope Valley Travels Free Way to Golden Lead

Antelope Valley High sank only two of four free throws in the waning seconds Tuesday night but they were enough to ensure a 70-66 Golden League victory over Palmdale that gave the Antelopes a share of the Golden League lead.

Sophomore guard Trent Searcy hit the first of two free throws with five seconds remaining to give the Antelopes (14-5, 3-1 in league play) a 69-66 lead.

Antelope Valley’s Mark Buckner grabbed the rebound of Searcy’s second free throw and was fouled immediately. Buckner made one of his two free throws.

Le’Tre Kelly scored 17 points for the Antelopes and Tony Walker had 12, all in the second half.

Steve Eernisse scored 21 points for the Falcons and Marcus Carr added 19.

Muir 86, Crescenta Valley 68--The Falcons (14-5, 2-2) trailed by a point at intermission, but withered under Muir’s press in the second half of a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.

Nathan Sinning had 30 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons. Mike Greco added 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Canyon 60, Saugus 45--The Cowboys used a 17-0 run during a seven-minute span in the first and second quarters to open up a 26-7 lead in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Ruben Castaneda had 21 points for the Cowboys (12-7, 3-1), who moved into a tie for first place.

Paraclete 66, Mojave 63--Danny Stephens sank a three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Spirits (8-9, 3-0) a High Desert League victory at Mojave.

Stephens had 18 points and Josh Foster added 17 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for Paraclete.

Grant 64, Sylmar 40--Donald Patterson scored 16 points and Roget Jiries added 13 as the Lancers (8-8, 2-1) overpowered the Spartans in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

GIRLS

Crescenta Valley 71, Muir 68--Michelle Greco had 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals at Muir as the Falcons (19-1, 4-0) overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to take sole possession of first place in the Pacific League.

Kelly Paige scored her only two points with three minutes left to give the Falcons their first lead of the second half, 62-60.

Amirah Leonard had 18 points and six assists for the Falcons and Tara Gregory added 17 points and seven assists.

Buena 63, Dos Pueblos 24--Eboni Conley had 21 points and six steals to help the Bulldogs (14-0, 6-0) remain undefeated.

Nicole Greathouse had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Buena and Christie Erickson added 10 points.

Oxnard 51, Ventura 43--Jaline Bradley had 17 points and Donya Walker added 10 for the Yellowjackets (11-5, 5-1) in the Channel League victory at home.

Nicole Campbell led Ventura (5-11, 1-5) with 13 points.

Palmdale 69, Antelope Valley 48--Casey Bledsoe had 16 points and Monique Nolan added 14 for the Falcons (17-3, 4-0) in a Golden League victory at Palmdale.

Kristi Rose and Margie Knott each scored 12 points for Palmdale--which forced 28 turnovers--and Rose added 11 rebounds.

Simi Valley 96, Royal 61--Tawnee Cooper scored 32 points and had seven steals for the Pioneers (17-2, 6-1) in a Marmonte League game at Royal.

Angela Mosesso scored 21 points and Jamie Griffin added 13 for Simi Valley, which bolted to a 19-0 lead.

Thousand Oaks 78, Newbury 56--Jenn Detmer had 23 points and Nicole Woodruff added 15 as the Lancers (16-4, 7-0) posted their sixth consecutive victory in the Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Moorpark 61, Santa Clara 45--Tracey Milburn had 16 points and eight assists for the Musketeers in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.

Moorpark (15-0, 4-0) surpassed last season’s victory total.

Notre Dame 62, Chaminade 36--Frankie O’Connor had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the Knights’ Mission League victory at Notre Dame.

Gina Fese had 14 points for the Knights and Stacey Phillips added 12.

Hart 62, Burbank 33--Candace Boller had 16 points for the Indians (13-7, 4-0) in a Foothill League game at Burbank.

Village Christian 102, Vasquez 4--Carrie Langhans had 31 points and six assists, and Lindy James added 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Crusaders (9-6, 2-0) in an Alpha League victory over the Mustangs, a first-year varsity, at Village Christian.

Saugus 67, Canyon 49--Wendy Gussner had 18 points and Erica Lilley added 13 for the Centurions (5-10, 3-1) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Tanya McLaughlin had 27 points for Canyon.

Burroughs 75, Valencia 24--Teroya Roberson had 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Joyce Lau added 12 points and five steals as the Indians (12-7, 3-1) won a Foothill League game at Valencia.

Fillmore 80, St. Bonaventure 51--Julie Arundell had 24 points and April Kozar added 22 for the Flashes (14-3, 3-0) in a Tri-Valley League game.

Candace Bartosh scored 13 points for the Seraphs (5-11, 1-2).

WOMEN

Pomona-Pitzer 74, Cal Lutheran 64--Kristen McOwen scored 23 points for the Sagehens (11-3, 2-0) to snap the Regals’ four-game winning streak in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Pomona-Pitzer.

Missy Rider, Melissa Wood and Evi Orologas each scored 13 points for Cal Lutheran (6-8, 2-1).
