Coach: Mobleys Won’t Be Back at Antelope Valley Christian

Two top players will not return to Antelope Valley Christian High next school year to help the Eagles defend their Southern Section 8-man Small Schools Division football championship.

Eric Mobley Jr., a junior running back, and his brother, Justin, the team’s sophomore quarterback, are expected to transfer, Coach Mark Ligons said Tuesday.

Eric Mobley, the players’ father and the team’s defensive coordinator, also has left the program. The Mobleys could not be reached for comment.

“I have not personally spoken to any of them so I don’t know a reason,” Ligons said. “It isn’t a personal conflict with me. I’ve been friends with them for a long time.”

Eric Jr. rushed for more than 2,000 yards in each of the past two seasons. He had 36 touchdowns in the Eagles’ championship campaign.

Justin last season passed for more than 1,500 yards in his first year as a starter.

“Any time a program loses a good player it’s a disappointment,” Ligons said. “It’s unfortunate, but the football program will go on.”
