Santa Ana Wins 10 of 14 Matches, Golden West Title

Santa Ana won 10 of 14 matches to win the the Golden West League wrestling title with 165 1/2 points.

The Saints qualified 13 of its wrestlers for the Southern Section Division III finals.

Tony Perez (103 pounds), Fernando Serratos (119) and Carlos Joaquin (135) each scored pins for defending champion Santa Ana.

Tustin finished second with 89 points and Westminster finished third with 70 points.

Santa Ana, ranked third in the county, will defend its Southern Section dual-match title this Saturday at Corona Centennial.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado qualifies 11 to Southern Section--El Dorado, which won league with the best record (5-0), had five champions including Dave Hanaum (135 pounds); T.J. Ash (160); De Lonne Kelly (171); Mike Curtis (189) and Justin Bryant (215), who pinned Dan Astorga of Katella in 1:40. Richard Meza (152) of Loara, also advanced after easily winning his match in a technical fall.

In the Freeway League:

Troy wins--Troy had four champions and won the Freeway League wrestling finals with 202 points. Troy will send 11 qualifiers to the Division IV Southern Section Finals. La Habra finished second with 123 points and Buena Park finished third with 118.
