There was a case to be made for Westchester being top-seeded in the 4-A bracket of the City Section girls’ basketball playoffs. After all, the Comets compiled a 23-1 record and were 10-0 in the Coastal Conference. But the selection committee had Crenshaw (17-7) seeded No. 1, believing it played the tougher schedule. The committee supported its case by selecting four teams from Crenshaw’s Southern Pacific Conference (third-seeded Washington, No. 10 Narbonne and No. 8 Banning), compared to three from the Coastal Conference (Venice is 10th-seeded and Palisades 11th). Crenshaw opens play Friday against El Camino Real and, if victorious, will probably play Fremont (19-6) in the second round. . . . Two boys’ teams from the Westside are top-seeded. Crossroads (21-8) is atop the IV-A Southern Section bracket, and Pacific Hills is the No. 1 V-A team. They play host to opening-round games Friday at 7:30. . . . Jacqui Little, Annemarie Thompson and Skylar Little each scored as Marymount defeated Crossroads, 3-0, for its fourth consecutive Sunshine League soccer title. . . . St. Bernard won its first Del Rey League boys’ soccer title since 1987. The Vikings will play host to Beverly Hills, the Ocean League’s third-place team, Friday.
