13th-Ranked Northridge Batters San Bernardino, 14-4

The Cal State Northridge baseball team continued its offensive tear, ripping Cal State San Bernardino, 14-4, in a nonconference game Wednesday at Northridge.
The Matadors (10-1) have scored 37 runs in their last three games and have won five in a row.
Kurt Airoso was five for five with a home run and five runs batted in.
Adam Kennedy hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first for Northridge, ranked 13th in one national poll. Grant Hohman (two for four with four RBIs) had a three-run home run in the third.
Starting pitcher Gary Stephenson (1-0) held the Coyotes (5-3) to one hit and no runs in five innings.
Mission 5, Pasadena 1--Dusty Cook scattered six hits and allowed one run for the Free Spirit (2-1) in a nonconference game.
George Martinez had a ninth-inning home run and Art Diaz had two hits for Mission.
El Camino 6, Ventura 5--Joseph Jauregui and Monte Moritz each had two hits for the Pirates (1-2) in a South Bay tournament game.
SWIMMING
Pacific Collegiate Swimming Championships--Sara Cassady of Cal State Northridge won the one-meter diving event in Cerritos with 419.55 points, defeating Kristen Wright of Northern Arizona by more than 14 points. Sarah Cohen of Northridge finished third.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UC Santa Barbara 79, CS Northridge 54--The Matadors, who played without starting point guard Tammie Mills, were within four points of the Gauchos (17-5) late in the first half before the nonconference game at Northridge got out of hand.
Mills was out because of a calf injury. Guard Sarah Hagman, who suffered a bruised thigh in the first half, was also on the bench for most of the game.
Pam Karbowski scored 12 points, Sarah Bell added nine rebounds and Carrie Dormire had eight assists for Northridge (5-18).
Pepperdine 60, Loyola Marymount 47--Center Lisa Siders had totals of 20 points and 16 rebounds, and the Waves held the Lions to 26.9% shooting in a West Coast Conference game.
Pepperdine (12-11, 5-6) won for the third time in four games. Guard Sara Pierce scored 15 points for the Waves.
Valley 76, Canyons 68--Shawanda Hotchkiss had a season-high 39 points as the Monarchs (24-9, 9-0) clinched the Western State Conference South Division title.
Valley trailed with five minutes left, 62-57, before a pair of Hotchkiss baskets and Valery Brady’s five-for-five shooting lifted the Monarchs.
Melissa Dunkerly scored 18 points for Canyons (18-12, 6-3).
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cal Lutheran 84, Caltech 40--Freshman center Mike McGill had 18 points and eight rebounds for the host Kingsmen (17-5, 9-2) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. Mark Heerema added 15 points and Dave Ulloa scored 11.
Valley 76, Canyons 62--Mike Farmer had 15 points for the Monarchs in a WSC South Division game. Mack Cleveland added 11. Bill Bedgood had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Canyons (9-21, 3-6).
Antelope Valley 91, Cerro Coso 77--Jerome Payton scored 18 points for the Marauders (23-6, 7-0) in a Foothill Conference game.
