Division I-bound players Kristi Rose of Palmdale and Tawnee Cooper of Simi Valley will showcase their talents in first-round games. Rose, who has signed with Utah, will lead Palmdale (23-3), champion of the Golden League, against visiting Lakewood. Rose (14.5 scoring average) is one of four players scoring in double figures for the Falcons, ranked second to Buena in The Times’ regional poll. . . . Cooper, who will attend UC Santa Barbara, will lead Marmonte League champion Simi Valley against visiting Santa Monica, which finished fourth in the Bay League. Cooper, who averages 27 points and 12 rebounds, is always a threat to dominate. . . . Quartz Hill (15-6), second in the Golden League, plays host to Arroyo Grande. The Rebels, who have beaten Foothill League champion Hart and lost to Palmdale by two points, have three players averaging double figures in scoring, including Rebecca Welch (16.6). . . . Royal, fourth in the Marmonte League, plays at Lynwood, champion of the San Gabriel Valley League.

Division I-A

Buena’s 91-40 victory over Canyon on Thursday gave Coach Joe Vaughan his 500th victory. Next up for the Bulldogs (24-1) is a second-round game at Capistrano Valley, a 57-52 winner over University. Buena, ranked No. 1 in the state until losing to Woodbridge in a nonleague game two weeks ago, is adjusting to the loss of guard Eboni Conley, a four-year starter who is out for the season because of a knee injury. Center Nicole Greathouse, a junior averaging 16.7 points and 10.7 rebounds, and guard Kori Sebek, a senior averaging 8.9 points and 4.6 assists, lead the way. . . . Pacific League champion Crescenta Valley (26-1) broke the school single-season scoring record (1,939 points) in Thursday’s 88-34 rout of Ontario. The Falcons, who average 71.8 points and have won 14 in a row, play a second-round game at Corona, a 52-48 winner over Rowland. Senior guard Amirah Leonard averages 19.1 points and sophomore forward Michelle Greco averages 17.1 points and 10.2 rebounds. . . . Thousand Oaks (23-5) travels to Valencia High for a second-round game against Foothill League champion Hart (21-7). The Lancers, co-champions of the Marmonte League, have several talented players, including junior center Jenn Detmer, who averages 20.5 points and 10.2 rebounds. Sophomore forward Courtney Miller (8.4 rebounds) provides additional inside strength. Hart, 10-0 in league play, is minus Candace Boller (15.0 points, 8.8 rebounds), who is out because of a wrist injury. Guard Wendy Downen averages 8.7 points and 4.2 assists. . . . Oxnard (18-7), a 54-51 winner over Keppel, plays a second-round game at South Coast champion Mater Dei, which received a first-round bye. Although junior forward Nikki Black (10.6 points) has been slowed by a knee injury, freshman guard Jaline Bradley (12.8 points, 3.7 assists) and junior forward Danielle Curtis (12.1 points, 8.2 rebounds) give the Yellowjackets two strong weapons.

Division II-A

Three-time Mission League champion Alemany (19-7), a 59-32 winner over Paso Robles, plays a second-round game at Dominguez, third in the San Gabriel Valley League. The Indians boast perhaps the region’s top player, 6-foot-4 center Carly Funicello, who averages 16.9 points and 10.7 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kelli Kobayashi (6.1 assists) is the team’s best ballhandler. . . . Westlake (13-13), an at-large entry from the Marmonte League, defeated Troy, 41-39, Thursday to earn a shot at Golden West champion Ocean View. Westlake is led by Megan Carmola, a senior forward averaging 22.1 points and 13.6 rebounds.

Division III-AA

Moorpark (22-0), which claimed its first Frontier League title and is seeking its first playoff victory, plays host to Gladstone, third in the Montview League. Junior guard Tracey Milburn leads the Musketeers in scoring (16.9) and sister Tina, a senior forward, leads in rebounding (9.8). . . . Calabasas (13-8), third in the Frontier, travels to San Luis Obispo to take on the Northern League champion. Senior guard Jamie Apody leads the Coyotes in scoring (15.2) and Alyssa Love leads in rebounding (8.6).

Division III-A

Notre Dame (17-7), whose balanced attack features four key players, plays host to South Hills, third in the Valle Vista League. The Knights, who finished second to Alemany in the Mission League, are led by seniors Ashly Ritter (14.0 scoring average), Stacey Phillips (11.3), Lourdes Slinsky (10.6) and Stephanie Eden (8.0). . . . La Canada (12-12), which earned an at-large bid from the Rio Hondo League, plays San Dimas at Claremont High. The Spartans rely on Becca Jones (14.5 scoring average) and three-point specialist Kai Felton (11.2). San Dimas finished second in the Valle Vista League. . . . Harvard-Westlake (16-8) earned an at-large bid from the Mission League and plays at Rio Hondo League champion San Marino. Corrie Roberts (11.2) leads the Wolverines in scoring. . . . Nordhoff (17-8), second in the Frontier League, plays host to Costa Mesa, an at-large entry from the Pacific Coast League. Sophomore forward Erin Barker sparks the Rangers with an average of 14.2 points.

Division IV-AA

High Desert League champion Paraclete (17-5) plays host to Beaumont, champion of the Skyline League. Center Kim Whisler can be dominating inside for the Spirits, averaging 22 points and 13 rebounds. . . . Fillmore (21-3), which set a team record for victories while winning a second consecutive Tri-Valley League title, plays host to La Salle, second in the Sunshine League. The Flashes have a trio of scorers in Julie Arundell (19.6), April Kozar (16.3) and Christie Rosenblad (16.2). . . . La Reina (12-10) and Louisville (16-7), winners in Thursday’s wild-card round, play road games against league champions. La Reina, the third-place team in the Tri-Valley League, plays Los Padres champion Santa Ynez. The Regents are led by Kindrea Cuccia, who averages 11.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. Rapidly improving Louisville, which tied for second in the Mission League, plays Horizon League champion Ramona Convent. The Royals are led by 6-1 center Adriane Bilek (10.1 points, 9.2 rebounds).

Division IV-A

Alpha League champion Village Christian (16-7), winner of 10 of its last 11 games, plays host to Alverno, third in the Horizon League. All Southern Section guard Lindy James averages 20 points a game to lead the Crusaders. . . . St. Genevieve (8-15) visits second-seeded Bell-Jeff (20-5), trying to avenge last year’s 50-point loss in the opening round. Bell-Jeff, second in the Camino Real League, has six players averaging nine or more points and four players averaging more than eight rebounds. Adelita Pallares, who averages 12.9 points and 10.4 rebounds, leads St. Genevieve, second in the Sunrise League. . . . Providence, second in the Liberty League, plays at Brethren Christian, second in the Olympic League.

Division V-AA

Westside League champion Montclair Prep plays host to Flintridge Prep, third in the Prep League. Laura Power averages 11.4 points for Montclair Prep. In other games, Liberty League champion Holy Martyrs plays host to South Bay Lutheran, fourth in the Heritage League; Oakwood, fourth in the Liberty League, plays at Mission Prep, champion of the Central Coast League; and Valley Torah, second in the Valley League, plays at St. Anthony in an 8:30 game. St. Anthony finished second in the Camino Real League.

Division V-A

Cornerstone Christian, champion of the Condor League, plays host to Cuyama Valley, third in the Coast Valley League, at Camarillo Boys’ and Girls’ Club.
