Other winners were El Modena’s Aaron Santana at 171 pounds and Reuben Droughns of Anaheim, who won a 5-3 decision over Calvary Chapel’s Josh Saul.

In the Division III championships:

Santa Ana wins--Ignacio Bahena, Fernando Serratos and Sade Morales won their weight-class titles at Chino Hills Ayala High to give Santa Ana its first-ever Southern Section wrestling title.

The Saints, who had six wrestlers place, finished with 148.5 points, surpassing Corona Centennial (144) during the championship finals.

The key was for the Saints to stay upright and to wrestle their opponents above the waist.

“Our philosophy was to take down our opponents and let them up,” Santa Ana Coach Scott Glabb said. “We wanted to wrestle on our feet and out-condition our opponents.”

Bahena avenged last year’s semifinal loss to Dominic Garcia of Riverside Norte Vista with a decisive 10-6 victory in the 112-pound championship match. Bouncing back from a head injury in the third period, Sade Morales held on to beat Terry Spaulding of San Luis Obispo, 13-4.

Serratos was the 119-pound champion, Jose Morales took second at 130.
