Bell strengthened its position as the top wrestling team in the City Section by defeating El Camino Real, 40-31, at the dual-meet championships. Junior Rolando Diaz clinched the victory for the Eagles with a first-period pin. The City finals are Saturday night at 6 at El Camino. . . . Paramount’s Cisto Nava defeated Jose Morales of Santa Ana, 3-0, to win the 130-pound title at the Southern Section Division III final at Ayala High. Nava advanced to the Masters Meet, Saturday at Fountain Valley High. . . . Continued rain caused City Section officials to reshuffle the boys’ and girls’ soccer playoffs, and Wednesday’s games were moved to Friday. . . . Despite finishing with a league record of 7-3, the Fremont girls’ soccer team was left out of the City Section playoffs. Included in the playoffs was Grant, which finished 0-7-3 in league play. Fremont and Grant don’t compete in the same league, and section Commissioner Barbara Fiege said the soccer committee felt Grant played a much tougher schedule. . . . The Cerritos girls’ basketball team pulled one of the early surprises in the Southern Section playoffs with a 56-51 victory over Huntington Beach Marina in a Division I-A second-round game. Angie Polk made a three-point shot with a minute left that capped the victory for the Dons (23-6). . . . Don Edwards had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead Downey Calvary Chapel to a 58-48 victory over Yeshiva in the second round of the Southern Section Division V-AA playoffs Tuesday.
