Today’s Playoff Games

DIVISION I

Los Alamitos (12-4-4) at Santa Margarita (23-1-3), 3 p.m.

This is a significant showdown between two of the county’s best teams. Santa Margarita was top-ranked in the county all season and Los Alamitos was ranked No. 6 in the final poll. Santa Margarita seemed invincible during the regular season but tied Irvine and lost to Newport Harbor in the final week to share the Sea View League title with the Vaqueros, who lost to Upland, 1-0, in the first round. Los Alamitos lost three games in the Sunset League but beat Marina in the final game to win the title. Santa Margarita has two of the most skilled forwards in the county, Annie Luke and Kristen Rowe, and Los Alamitos has one of the most exciting midfielders, Andrea Sievers.

Ocean View (12-8-3) at Canyon (14-6-2), 3 p.m.

Ocean View, the Golden West League champion, upset second-seeded Laguna Hills, 2-0, Tuesday and is in the quarterfinals for the first time. Much of Ocean View’s success lies in its defense, which has not allowed a goal in the playoffs. Canyon, which finished in second place in the Century League, was ranked No. 6 in the final regular season Southern Section Division II poll. A.J. Kula, a senior midfielder, has scored four goals in the past four games for Canyon, including the game-winner in sudden death overtime against La Puente Bishop Amat in the first round.
