Cypress Gets Past Long Beach in 12th

Craig Kuzmic’s single in the 12th inning gave Cypress a 1-0 victory over Long Beach City in a nonconference baseball game at Blair Field in Long Beach.

With one out in the top of the 12th, Randy Case and Keith Ginter singled. With two men on, Kuzmic hit a line drive to left to score Case for the victory.

Ricky Glagett pitched 10 innings for Cypress (12-4), giving up four hits and no walks. He had five strikeouts. Ginter (2-0) came on in relief to get the victory.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 6, Irvine Valley 3--Winning four of its singles matches, Saddleback handed Irvine Valley its first loss of the season.

Saddleback’s Missy Hosoi defeated Jill Riley, 6-2, 6-2, and Sandy Peters beat Natalie Nowzari, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles, Gabi Rios and Sydney Weinberg teamed to defeat Irvine Valley’s Suzan Yildiz and Sarah Curry, 7-5, 6-3. Irvine is 4-1, 2-1.

In other conference women’s tennis:

Fullerton 9, Cypress 0--Debbie Vonusa swept Cypress’ Laura Cull, 6-1, 6-1, as Fullerton swept every set. Vonusa teamed with sister Lynn Vonusa to defeat Cull and Susanne Bowen, 6-0, 6-1.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Irvine Valley 0--Brian Gruner defeated Irvine Valley’s Bryan Johnson, 6-4, 6-2, as Saddleback rolled. Kevin Springer and Keith Snavely also swept for Saddleback (4-0, 2-0).
