SCC Runs Past Concordia to Win Share of Second Place

Kevin Carlson scored 23 points and five other Southern California College players scored at least 10 to lead the Vanguards to a 92-80 victory over Concordia in a Golden State Athletic Conference game Friday in front of 1,643 at SCC.

SCC (19-11, 9-5 in conference) pulled into a second-place tie with Concordia (20-4, 9-5) in the teams’ final conference game.

Eric Walker scored 12, Mike Guevara scored 11 and Mike Ruble, Marlon Watson and Brian Carlson each scored 10 for SCC, which trailed 41-40 at halftime.

Tarik James scored 19 for Concordia.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Concordia 77, Southern California College 63--Heather Carll made nine of 12 field goals and finished with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds for the visiting Eagles (23-7, 9-3).

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

CS Fullerton 84, San Jose State 55--Shayla Bradshaw scored 30 points, made four three-pointers and 12 of 12 from the free-throw line for Fullerton (7-17, 4-11).

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Chapman 96, UC Santa Cruz 61--The Panthers (14-11) finished their season with a rout at home, avenging an 83-82 overtime loss at Santa Cruz last month.

Chapman, which led by 12 at the half, scored 62 points in the second half, a total greater than Chapman’s production in three full games this season.

Seniors Jim Falletta and Greg Vanden Ordel, playing in their final collegiate game, led the Panthers. Falletta had 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Vanden Ordel had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

In the California Coastal Conference men’s basketball tournament:

Pacific Christian 59, Simpson 46--Charles Henderson scored 21 points and Roger Traynhan had 10 for Pacific Christian (13-19), which will face Pacific Union in the championship game today at La Sierra in Riverside.
