Marie Gieron
Foothill, Senior
Softball/Pitcher
Off-season work in the weight room and in the pitching circle has given Gieron more strength and a couple more pitches. That came in handy Saturday against Mater Dei in the title game of the Fountain Valley tournament. Mater Dei, then top-ranked, managed only one hit--an infield single in the seventh inning--and Foothill won, 1-0, in the tiebreaker in the eighth. “That’s a team that hits up and down the lineup,” Foothill Coach Joe Gonzalez said. “It was an excellent performance for her.”
