Mater Dei 5, Bishop Eustace (N.J.) 1--Pitchers Kevin Bice and Jeremy Dietrich combined for 10 strikeouts for Mater Dei. Ryan Blackmun hit his fifth home run of the season for the Monarchs (12-1).

Esperanza 1, Hudson Bay (Wash.) 0--Brandon Pack (1-0) and Jim Pickel combined on a three-hitter for Esperanza.

The Aztecs scored in the third, when Ricky Leach reached on an error, advanced to third on Bo Bryant’s single and scored on sacrifice fly by David Parrish. Bill Gissel (3-1) gave up three hits for Hudson Bay (7-1).

In the quarterfinals of the Dole Big West Invitational:

El Toro 8, Servite 5--Clemente Bonilla had a double and a home run and also made a key defensive play for El Toro (11-4). He leaped to catch a line drive then threw to first to complete a game-ending double play.

Joe Smith pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and two earned runs, and also had three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for El Toro.

In the quarterfinals of the Pride of the Coast tournament:

Costa Mesa 7, Edison 0--Matt Broesamle went three for three with two doubles and three RBIs for Costa Mesa (10-4). Jeremy Starns pitched a complete game for the Mustangs, giving up four hits and striking out seven. Costa Mesa plays Lakewood at 11 a.m. today at Corona del Mar High in a semifinal game.

Santa Margarita 9, Rancho Alamitos 0--Matt Strickroth’s homer began a two-out, four-run rally in the first inning that was plenty for the Eagles (7-7). Danny Clark had two doubles in the Eagles’ balanced attack, and Craig Harrison had two hits and an RBI.
