Matadors Land Slugger Nadeau From Canyons

Rick Nadeau, a power-hitting outfielder at College of the Canyons, has committed to Cal State Northridge.

First baseman George Tavaglione of Riverside Arlington High and pitcher-third baseman Rick Chessman of Servite High have committed to Pepperdine.

Jim DeBiase, a right-handed pitcher at Pierce, has committed to University of the Pacific.

Mike Amundson, a pitcher at Newbury Park High, will sign with University of San Diego.

Golf

Carlos Robledo made a 10-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to beat Hart High teammate Jason Semelsberger for the Knollwood junior championship Tuesday at Knollwood Golf Course in Granada Hills.

Robledo and Semelsberger shot rounds of even-par 72.

Greg Goodfried of Birmingham High finished third at 73.

Volleyball

Donald Puathasnanon of Granada Hills High has accepted a partial scholarship to UCLA.

Football

Don Shinnick, a former NFL linebacker and assistant coach at Valley College, will be recognized today by the Los Angeles Community College District board of trustees.

Shinnick played at Valley and UCLA in the 1950s and for 13 seasons with the Baltimore Colts. He coached at Valley in 1994.
