Bryan Twins Sail at Easter Bowl

Twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo advanced to today’s third round in the boys’ 18-and-under division at the Easter Bowl National Junior Tennis Championships in Palm Springs.

Third-seeded Mike Bryan on Tuesday defeated Chris Sands of Los Gatos, 6-1, 6-3, and fourth-seeded Bob Bryan beat Adrian Pagani of Oldsmar, Fla., 6-1, 6-4. Bob Bryan reached the semifinals in 1995.

The Bryan twins, members of the U.S. Junior National team and one of the top junior doubles teams in the world, are the top-seeded doubles team at the Easter Bowl. They will resume doubles play Thursday in the quarterfinals against David Cheatwood of Fayetteville, N.C. and Brian Valhaly of Atlanta.

Fifth-seeded Erin Boisclair of Agoura Hills and unseeded Brandis Braverman of Encino won first-round matches in girls’ 18 singles. Boisclair, an Easter Bowl semifinalist last year, defeated Jennifer Embry, 6-4, 6-4, and Braverman beat Whitney Laiho of Middletown, R.I., 6-1, 6-1.

In boys’ 14 singles, third-seeded Nicholas Weiss of Calabasas advanced to today’s quarterfinals by defeating Lee Taylor Walker of Jackson, Tenn., 6-2, 6-3.
