Redondo has jumped out to a surprising 19-0 start and earned points toward a national ranking in Baseball America’s top 25. The main reason for the success is on the mound, where the Seahawks have three dominating pitchers--who own 17 of the team’s 19 victories. Junior Jared Moon (5-0, 0.58 earned-run average in 42 1/3 innings), senior Andy Wagenbrenner (6-0, 0.61 ERA in 34 innings) and senior Ian Herweg (6-0, 2.03 ERA in 38 innings), lead a pitching staff that has given up 34 runs all season. Redondo’s offense averages more than 10 runs per game, led in part by twin brothers Randall and Ryan Stowasser, both hitting above .340. The brothers also started on the basketball team. They are joined by five others seniors in the starting lineup. Another top player is third baseman Chad Peshke, who is batting .429 with 31-runs batted in. “We get a great pitching and we have athletes at every position,” Coach Tim Ammentorp said. Redondo, 7-0 in the Ocean League, won the Westside Tournament last month and plays South Torrance in the championship game of its own tournament Saturday night. . . . Whittier left fielder John Moreno was two for three with a double and two RBIs in a 17-9 loss to Santa Fe. More impressive was that Moreno played the final two innings despite a broken wrist, which he injured while sliding home in the fifth inning. Although no balls were hit his way in the field, Moreno batted in the seventh. His bunt attempt was unsuccessful. . . . Redlands Arrowhead Christian ended Linfield’s state-record 58-game league win streak with an 8-4 victory over the Lions on Tuesday. It was Linfield’s first league loss since 1990. . . . Fontana jumped from No. 17 to No. 4 in Baseball America’s top 25, and made the USA Today rankings for the first time at No. 6. The reason? “I have no idea,” Fontana Coach Steve Hernandez said. “Maybe they are finally waking up and smelling the coffee.”
