Nadadores’ Sorgi Wins Outdoor Diving Meet

Erica Sorgi of the Mission Viejo Nadadores won the girls’ one-meter event in the 14-15 Junior Olympic division and the women’s senior competition Saturday at the Southern Pacific Assn. Outdoor Diving Championships at the Mission Viejo Aquatic Center.

Other Nadadores winners were Michael Hilde in the boys’ 10-11 Junior Olympic three-meter, Tiffany Bradford in the girls’ 14-15 novice one-meter and Charlene Vincent in the girls’ 16-18 novice one-meter.

Also faring well was the Crown Valley Team, which is based in Laguna Niguel. Its winners were Jessica Hunall in the girls’ 9-and-under one-meter, Carrie Quinn in the girls’ 10-11 Junior Olympic three-meter, and Robbie Quinn in the boys’ 14-15 Junior Olympic oe-meter.

The three-day event continues at 9 a.m. today with boys’ and girls’ one- and three-meter competition and concludes with a platform competition.

Josh Kliner, a former Cypress College and Servite High first baseman, has signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Kliner, who hit .460 at Kansas this season, was a first-team All-American and co-player of the year in the Big Eight.

Another Jayhawk and former Cypress pitcher, Mario Opipari, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and former Cypress outfielder Matt Dempsey was drafted by the San Francisco Giants.

Augie Ojeda, a former Cypress College and Tennessee shortstop, was two for two with two runs batted in for Team USA in an 11-1 victory Saturday over Nicaragua in a rain-abbreviated, seven-inning game in Millington, Tenn. The teams will play the fifth of a five-game series today.
