Whitewash: Where have you gone, Russell White?

That’s what administrators at Crespi High would like to know.

Crespi will honor members of its 1986 Southern Section championship football team during halftime of tonight’s game against St. Bernard, the first varsity game on Crespi’s campus since 1988. However, White, who rushed for 2,339 yards as a sophomore that season and later starred at California, isn’t expected to be among them.

Dan Flaherty, development director for Crespi, has received responses from most of the 40 players on the ’86 roster and about 25 are expected to attend. But attempts to contact White have been unsuccessful.

White was released this season by the San Francisco 49ers after brief stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers.

“I keep hearing ‘so-and-so’ keeps in touch with him,” Flaherty said. “But we haven’t heard from him.”

Holiday In: Linebacker Shaun Holiday, who played last season at San Fernando, has transferred to Kennedy and will play tonight against Cleveland.

San Fernando Assistant Principal Barbara Garry said Holiday was transferred by a district administrator and was given athletic privileges. Holiday, a senior, arrived at Kennedy two weeks ago and has participated in the required 10 practices.

Little General: Glendale suffered a 47-13 defeat to Burroughs in a nonleague football game last Friday night, but Dynamiters Coach Steve Pinkston liked what he saw of 5-foot-5 junior Pablo Alvarez in his first start at quarterback.

Alvarez didn’t have great numbers--completing nine of 22 passes for 91 yards and two interceptions--but he did lead Glendale on drives of 95, 70 and 70 yards, although the Dynamiters (1-3) scored points on only two of those possessions.

“He had a couple of balls that were intercepted, but they weren’t his fault,” Pinkston said.

Pay Attention: Evidently, coaches at Pasadena High did a poor job scrutinizing videotape of St. Francis before last week’s nonleague game, won by the Golden Knights, 24-6.

The Bulldogs failed to see coming what is becoming a hallmark of St. Francis, the “fumblerooski,” in which an offensive lineman scoops up an intentional “fumble” and runs around end.

Coach Bill Redell called the gadget play on the game’s first play and center David Moore ran 60 yards for a touchdown. St. Francis (3-1) has scored six touchdowns on fumblerooskis in the past four years, including two in the past two weeks.

Thou Shalt Not Pass: Littlerock High is 4-1 despite passing for only 130 yards.
