SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Quarterback Camy Smith completed 13 for 19 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown Friday night to lead Highland High over Littlerock, 33-13, in a Golden League game at Palmdale High.

It was the third consecutive league victory for the Bulldogs (7-3, 3-1 in league), who clinched a Southern Section Division II playoff berth in their regular-season finale and remained in contention for the league title.

Highland was considered a longshot for the league title after losing its opener to Palmdale, but the Bulldogs silenced the skeptics by beating Quartz Hill, 21-7, and stunning Antelope Valley, 7-0.

Against Littlerock (6-3, 1-2), the Bulldogs drove 93 yards on their third possession but settled for a 25-yard field goal by Derek Brown. The key play of the drive was a 57-yard pass from Smith to Will Demps that put the ball on the Littlerock five-yard line.

On the Bulldogs’ next drive, after a 43-yard punt return by Alex Avina and a 15-yard facemask penalty against Littlerock, Smith completed a 24-yard scoring passing to Brian Floyd.

Littlerock running back Devon Reese rushed for 108 yards in 18 carries but left the game early in the third quarter with a rib injury.
