Bolsa Grande, Sophomore; Football/Quarterback
Baughman had shown promise in the Matadors’ first nine games this season. In the season finale Friday, he tapped all that potential, setting a state record for passing yardage in a 53-23 victory over La Quinta. He completed 21 for 42 passes for 569 yards and six touchdowns. Ramon Nevarez caught eight for 380 yards, also a state record.
Andrew Medley/Football/Running Back
* Fountain Valley, senior. Rushed for 165 yards and caught 18-yard screen pass for go-ahead score in 29-22 victory over Esperanza.
Billy Messenger/Water Polo/Goalkeeper
* Corona del Mar, senior. Had 20 saves in the Sea Kings’ 8-7 overtime victory over Mission Viejo in the Division I playoffs.
Nick Russell/Cross-Country
* Orange, senior. Won his Division II heat at Southern Section prelims in 15:35, the fastest time for a county runner.
